Abstract artwork is a constantly changing and rather misunderstood medium in some cases. There are still some people in this world who believe that abstracted artwork is nothing more than random distorted shapes and colors onto a piece of paper or canvas that someone could just lift in the air and call art. Well, unless its Dada or some form of expressionism you are provably wrong. Abstract artwork can be represented by any asymmetrical shape that could be either black in white or bathed in every color in the visible spectrum. 3-dimensional abstract artwork has truly picked up in the art communities lately and the various styles, designs and even inspirations are really, really something. From simplistic lines to various curves and shapes melded into something entirely new, abstract art is as flexible as the shapes and minds that create it. Radioactive, created by =Smiling-Demon, gives us a prime example of a modernized variant of the popular medium that is abstract art and gives us his own spin on the style.
The first thing that caught my eye with this piece is the very glossy material as well as a transparent luminescent material that he used on this particular design. The way that the materials are patterned within the design you can envision the entire design glowing its bright green neon as it hovers silently in whatever space that it occupies. While the colors on the abstraction have a rather darker and bolder feeling to them, they still find a way to glow and become easily picked up by the viewing eye.
The background texture has a strange way of adding much more depth to the abstraction. The addition of a drop shadow for the abstract design really brings out the feeling that the piece is just floating freely alongside a wall somewhere. The wall itself gives of a sort of techno-organic appearance as if its an artificial wall while at the same time it appears flesh-like and could possibly be a sentient being. The lines of light give off a nice impression of movement as if either the abstract design is moving at a high velocity or if everything else around it is moving and stands still. Its a really good effect that attracts the eyes all over the image.
One minor gripe that I have with the image is on the lower right area of the abstraction is a bit of pixelation as if the edge of it was sharpened a bit too much and distracts away from the rest of the composition. Also, a closer inspection reveals a strange black lining on the inside of the piece that doesn't appear anywhere else. A little cleanup work wouldn't hurt, but its not really all that severe of a problem to begin with.
This piece is a symbol of the evolution of the abstract art genre and shows that it can only get better from here. Great job =Smiling-Demon.
