Sometimes I wonder. Loyalty, Dedication and a bit of hard work all seem to be concepts lost on far to many people these days, especially if the personal benefit isn't instantaneous.

:(

Someone please prove me wrong.

[Edit]
When I say these days, I probably don't really mean that, it might not be anything new, just that I've noticed it more (and got more frustrated) as I've got older and more involved in various things.

I partially blame the lazy parents of the last generation and the expectations of instant benefits of this generation for everyone's sense of "Unless I get something right away, I ain't doing any more than the bare minimum" - You see it everywhere. Kids hardly even try in school, low grades should only be the result of the kid finding it genuinely hard, but once they find out they only need to do so much to "pass" that's all they can be bothered doing. Maybe because punishments aren't harsh enough and rewards for doing well not noticeable enough. Even worse is you see it in the workforce - how often have you been a customer and you had to deal with a completely incompetent employee whom you could tell really didn't feel like helping you and you wonder "How do they keep their job?" - Everyone's just lazy and expects a lot for a little and they expect it immediately.

Fortunately persistent hard work and loyalty can get you noticed in the workforce. My brothers work hard in their jobs and never slack off just because the opportunity comes up, and even though each has only been in their jobs for a couple of months - they both have already gotten many praises from their bosses like "How I wish I had 20 of you working instead" - there's still some who care and notice when they see a diligent worker ;)

But outside of work-related stuff I really wouldn't bother going that extra mile to impress people. People are so consumed in their own needs that they won't notice yours. You can go out of your way to do a favour for someone else but that won't stop them from making excuses as to why they can't do something you ask of them :p
